Gerald Panter
For the past eight years, he has traveled throughout Paris, meticulously rephotographing those buildings, fountains, bridges and picturesque narrow streets which the renowned French photographer, Eugène Atget, had photographed as part of his documentation of the art and architecture of Paris during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. That extraordinary and comprehensive photographic project which he conceived and executed, "Atget's Paris: Then and Now" (Le Paris d’Atget: d’alors et aujourd’hui), formed the basis for his lectures about Eugène Atget, the man and his methodology, at the J. Paul Getty Museum in Los Angeles and the Museum of the City of New York. This project was featured in the photography section of the 2001 edition of The American Annual. |
